Abstract:

This article discusses the challenges and risks involved in small to medium size construction projects in India. The risks can be categories as material risks, machinery risks, manpower risks, utilities risks, supply-chain risks, design and architectural risks, environmental risks, location/site related risks, schedule related risks, soft issues, natural disasters and acts of god. There are many challenges and risks a construction project manager has to handle. It is relatively easy to handle these risks to compare with software projects. This is because the progress of project is visible to everyone, knowledge base is huge, and construction industry is matured. The risks are more for the task of putting concrete slab for a construction project.
